VENICE
- O' TOOLE HOUSE
This
palace was founded at the begining of the XX century and is one of the
few examples of Venetian liberty style. It is separated from the church
S. Maria della Salute only by a small river, which links the Canal Grande
channel to the Giudecca Channel.
This palace has been recently restored in the full respect of its original
features and is equipped with all modern comforts.
Its
location is really strategical. It is near one of the most beautiful
Venetian churches : S. Maria della Salute, which is the masterpiece
of the architect Baldassarre Longhena; its construction is dated 1681.
Its position is very important, because it is located at the entrance
of the Canal Grande (its staircase goes from the water till the church-square)
and it is part of the town-quarter Punta della Dogana, where once the
goods coming from the sea went through custom clearance and which was
the most important defence point against pirate attacks.
The
house is located in the "Zattere" zone, a large pedestrian area from
Punta della Dogana to the Sea Station , where the biggest crusier boats
start their journey. This promenade is well known to the Venetians and
also to the tourists, who can enjoy a nice walk or drink a coffee in
the different bars along the way.
Starting
from O'Toole House and crossing the Canal Grande, you will find S. Marco
Square in the historical city centre.
Our house is also near to the Guggenheim Museum. In ten minutes you
arrive to the Accademia Bridge: this is a wooden construction realized
in the XIX century from the Austrian Government.
Just in front you will find the Accademy Gallery, in which it is gathered
the most precious collection of Venetian paintings: from Giorgione to
Tiziano, from Tintoretto to Tiepolo.
Continuing on this way you arrive in Santo Stefano Square with its bars
and restaurants, an area loved both by inhabitants and tourists, because
of its originality and interests: in certain periods during the year
you can visit there the antiques market, the Book Fair, the August exhibition
or the famous Palazzo Grassi, where you can visit the most prestigious
international cultural manifestations. On the other side of the Giudecca
Channel there is the S. Giorgio Island.
There you can visit there the Giorgio Cini Foundation, a cultural center
for international congresses , a famous reference point for world known
eminences.
